Anxiety and overthinking have become such familiar parts of our generation’s story. From school deadlines and family expectations to social media pressure and “what next?” thoughts, it sometimes feels like our minds just won’t stop talking. And the hardest part? You can be smiling outside while fighting a storm inside.


When Your Mind Won’t Rest

For many young people, anxiety doesn’t always look like panic attacks; sometimes, it’s quiet. It’s that racing thought before bed. The over-analyzing after every text. The fear that you’re not doing enough, even when you’re giving your best. We live in a fast, loud world where comparison happens every day. You open your phone and someone your age seems to be achieving more, traveling more, creating more, and suddenly, your peace feels smaller.

But pause for a second. You are not behind. You are growing at your pace, on your path.


When I Couldn’t Stop Overthinking

I remember a period when I couldn’t sleep properly. My thoughts just wouldn’t slow down. I was replaying conversations, planning future moves, and worrying about things I couldn’t control. It was exhausting. Then one day, I decided to just breathe. Literally. I took my phone, played a soft song, and sat quietly for a few minutes. The thoughts were still there, but they didn’t feel as loud. That was my first small win, learning that I could choose calm, even in chaos.


Finding Calm in Small Things

Here’s what I’ve learned along the way:

  1. Name it: When anxiety hits, don’t deny it. Say, “I’m anxious right now, and that’s okay.” Naming your feelings gives them less power.

  2. Breathe deeply: Take slow, intentional breaths, inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your mouth.

  3. Journal it out: Sometimes, your mind just needs to empty itself on paper.

  4. Talk to someone, such as a friend, mentor, or counselor. Talking helps you realize you’re not alone.

  5. Pray or meditate. Ground yourself in something bigger than your thoughts.


You’re Not Alone in This

Every young person you see “figuring life out” has their moments of doubt, fear, and overthinking. You’re not weak for feeling anxious; you’re human.
